Microfluidics of the FIAlab-on-valve instrument will measure and deliver at selected flow rate any volume within the range of 20 to 1000 microliters with a repeatability better than 0.5% RSD. Smaller volumes  down to 1 microliter are handled with repeatabilities that are acceptable for a majority of assays. In addition to precise metering, or dispensing,  the system will dilute liquids ( well over 1000 fold ), deliver them at selected flowrate to a target (such as sensor or live cell) either as a square input or a selected concentration gradient.

The concentration of delivered aliquots can be monitored as they pass through a flow cell integrated into LAB-ON-VALVE, either by spectroscopic or electrochemical detector. FIAlab software will control delivered volumes, rate of delivery, frequency of delivery and timing of delivery 24 hours a day, reliably day after day. The dosage or concentration of volume of delivered liquid can be programmed to be changed periodically as desired. The maximum sampling/delivery  frequency is 2 samples per minute, such as achieved for automated dye assay.

Typical applications are quality control of dyes, pharmaceuticals, beverages – based on their intrinsic color . In the fine chemicals and the pharmaceutical industry validating the contents of incoming materials is critical. Since many of the incoming chemicals show unique UV/VIS absorbance spectra Lab–on-valve is a useful tool for quality control.
