Optical Detectors
(Fluorometers and
Spectrometers) |
FIAlab Instruments offers two base detector
systems, including the PMT-FL fluorometer which is optimal for very
low level fluorometric and
chemiluminescence
assays, and the USB4000
spectrometer which is optimal for absorbance assays from the UV through the
NIR range. The USB4000 can also be used for higher level fluorometric
assays.

The PMT-FL
is a photomultiplier based flow through fluorometer many orders of magnitude
more sensitive than typical CCD based spectrometers or photodiodes. The
PMT-FL is available with a built in Diode laser, Tungsten lamp, or UV or VIS
LED. Also, an optionally available configuration includes a fiber optic
interface for use with an external light source such as Deuterium. Ideal
for both fluorescence and chemiluminescence
assays.
Typical applications include
fluorometric
ammonium assays , and
monitoring
Beta-galactosidase activity.
Emission and excitation filters are
mounted in user accessible slots inside the enclosure, allowing for quick
removal and exchange. Additional Information:

USB2000/USB4000 miniature fiber optic UV-VIS-NIR
spectrometers are for low light level applications. These spectrometers
accept light energy transmitted through single-strand optical fiber and
disperses it via a fixed grating across the CCD array.

FlowDet – Photodiode based flow through
detection system provides a low cost approach to colorimetric absorbance
measurements. The FlowDet is designed and is ideally suited for teaching Flow
Injection Analysis. Combined with the FIAlab-2500, the FlowDet can be used for
measuring nitrate, nitrite, and other typical nutrient type assays. Three
LEDs (red, green, blue) are included for selection of monitored wavelengths
(only a single wavelength can be monitored at a time).
The FlowDet does not have the flexibility or stability of the USB4000
spectrometer based detection system, however for less than 1/2 the cost, it is
ideal for introductory teaching, or for the laboratory with a limited budget.
