SI in Lab-On-Valve® (LOV)
format is a groundbreaking technology that has
won an enthusiastic acceptance in the research
community for its versatility, and in the
routine laboratory for its reliability. Designed
to accommodate spectrophotometric, fluorescence,
and/or electrochemistry
measurements,
the SI LOV is used as a platform for a variety
of microSI techniques.
Downscaling of the conventional SI system is achieved by integrating the
sampling conduit and flow cell into a micromachined compact structure mounted
atop a conventional multiposition
valve. The SI LOV system operates
in the microliter domain. Sample path volume is minimized by short channel
lengths, while channel diameters are kept at 0.8mm ID to prevent clogging from
“real life” samples. The conventional sampling line has been
eliminated and instead samples are
brought into a flow through port
by an auxiliary pump, while the system is processing the previous sample.
Because of this the sampling frequency of the SI system in the LOV format is
higher than that of conventional SI systems, and the waste production/reagent
consumption is significantly less.

The SI LOV’s built in flowcell can be configured
for absorbance assays and fluorescence assays,
as well as electrochemistry.
Further enhancements can be gained by
connecting the LOV to an external detector such
as FIAlab’s PMT-FL.
For limited sample and/or
reagent volume applications consider the
MicroSip miniature autosampler.

The SI LOV is now available in polyetherimide (Ultem)
for
improved chemical resistance.
