SMA-Z Cell – The Flowcell for Stop Flow and Continuous
Flow Measurements
|
The SMA-Z Standard and Micro-Volume Flowcells
have been designed for absorbance measurements where the monitored
wavelengths are longer than 210 nm. The flowcells are available
in
2.5, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100-mm optical path lengths, with additional sizes
available with special orders. Available materials include
chemically inert Teflon, PEEK, Ultem, Steel and Plexiglas.
The 10 mm SMA-Z
standard Flowcell has a total internal volume of
approximately 60 microliters.
The Micro-Volume 10 mm version has an internal
volume of approximately 8 microliters.
These flowcells
utilize
UV-grade fused silica windows, a hard,
non-corrosive, chemically resistant material that also has a high UV through
IR transmittance (210 nm through 2000 nm).
The windows are held in place by chemically resistant seals, pressure
mounted with steel SMA connectors (connectors do not contact the fluids).
The windows are removable for cleaning or replacement with another
material of different optical bandpass properties.
The flowcell can be used with backpressures up to
800 PSI.
Each order includes one flowcell, two optical
windows, two steel SMA connectors, two chemically resistant Upchurch tubing
connectors, ten feet of Teflon tubing, six chemically resistant seals.
Two SMA terminated fiber optic cables are required (P600-20
fibers are recommended). Order
fibers separately. The detector of choice is the
USB4000
spectrometer.

SMA-Z flowcell
is now available in
polyetherimide (Ultem) for improved chemical resistance.
Here is a partial list of common chemicals compatible with polyetherimide:

Ketone (MEK), Naphtha, Nitric Acid, Phenol, Phosphoric Acid, Potassium
Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Skydrol, Sodium Hydroxide,
Sulfuric Acid, Tetrachloroethylene, Tin Chloride, Toulene, Trichloroethane
(1,1,2-), Triethylphosphate, Xylene, Zinc Chloride.

SMA-Z-100 flowcell has an
optical path of 100 mm. As with our other flowcells, it is available
in PEEK, Ultem, Teflon, Plexiglas, and Stainless Steel. Other
materials are available upon special orders.

The
Micro-Volume SMA-Z
flowcell
is similar to the SMA-Z flowcell in
principle, however it's built with a significantly smaller internal volume.
The
SMA-Z-Microvol
10 mm
optical path flowcell has a total internal volume of less than 8
microliters. Compare this to ~60 microliters for the standard SMA-Z-10
flowcell.
