FIAlab-3000 - An automated Sequential Injection Analyzer

Sequential Injection Analysis (SIA) is a new generation of FIA.  The approach is based on inter-dispersed zones of sample/reagent layered in sequence within a single carrier tube.  SIA most commonly utilizes a syringe pump and multi-position selector valve.  A detailed description of the principles of SIA will be found at www.microfia/principles.html

FIAlab-3000 is a compact and portable automated flow system configured to perform a variety of precise solution handling operations. The system can be used to introduce microliter to milliliter volumes of sample, reagent or other solutions to any external device, such as a reaction cell, spectroscopic or electrochemical detector, or instrument such as mass spectrometer, fluorescence microscope, FTIR spectrometer or atomic absorption spectrometer etc.

Recommended Packages

A complete SIA system includes the FIAlab-3000, the optional Lab-On-Valve manifold, an AIM1250 or SAMP3000 Autosampler, and the S2000 spectrometer, all interfaced to your PC through FIAlab for Windows software.  Please visit our website www.flowinjection.com for additional information, or give us a call to discuss your specific application requirements

Introducing Lab-On-Valve Technology for the FIAlab-3000

An addition of the new Lab-On-Valve manifold for the FIAlab-3000 leads to additional advantages by further downscaling the dimensions of SIA, by integrating the sampling conduit and flow through cell into a mezzofabricated compact structure.  The Lab-On-Valve manifold is utilized for absorbance, fluorescence, chemiluminescence and bead injection.

LAB-ON-VALVE technology will:

- Automate immunoassays, enzymatic, bioligand interaction assays (BIA), reagent based assays, water quality assays and fermentation monitoring at line or on line.

- Enhance performance of Spectroscopic and Electroanalytical instrumentation through precise control and monitoring of kinetics of interacting species.

- Save reagents, sample materials, waste disposal, bench space – and your time, since you only need to master one instrument to perform a wide variety of assays.

  FIAlab for Windows Software

FIAlab for Windows software (included with the FIAlab-3000) provides integrated control of all fluidic functions and data collection through object oriented display and/or plain language script programming.   FIAlab for Windows contains drivers for many types of peristaltic and syringe pumps, multiposition and injection valves, AI Scientific and FIAlab Autosamplers, Ocean Optics spectrometers, National Instruments A/D converters, and a wide range of additional peripherals.  Many of these peripherals simply plug into the back of the FIAlab-3000.   Please inquire for compatibility specifics.

Besides FIAlab for Windows, each order includes the FIAX ActiveX control, which allows the user to interface to the FIAlab-3000 and peripherals from existing software, whether written in Visual Basic, Visual C++, Delphi, Labview, HPEE or other environments.

Here are examples of external peripheral components, which are plug and play compatible with the FIAlab-3000.  FIAlab for Windows software works as a command and control center for these and many other devices.

Will the FIAlab-3000 meet your analytical requirements?

The standard FIAlab-3000 system features a six, eight, or ten position selection valve (please specify), a 24,000-increment stepper motor driven syringe pump and an auxiliary miniaturized single speed two channel peristaltic pump in a rugged metal housing. The system is controlled by the versatile FIAlab for Windows software (included), and is fully compatible with all FIAlab optical detection systems, including FIAlab's Z-Cell, Lab-On-Valve, and PMT-FL. The system also works with a wide range of other optical and electrochemical detectors and sensors.

The FIAlab-3000 has two RS-232 outputs to control external peripherals such as additional syringe pumps, sample changers, injection valves, or selection valves. An optional low cost extension module allows control of up to eight external RS-232 devices. The FIAlab-3000 also features a 24V DC relay for a small power consumption external device.

Some example applications include:

Water Quality: Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate/Nitrite, Phosphate, Silicate, Boron, Chromium, and Iron

Mass Spectrometry: ICP-MS, Automated electro-spray MS

FT-IR: Sample handling, kinetic based assays

Fluorescence Microscopy: Study of live cells using molecular probes, receptor studies

Flow Cytometry: Sample introduction into flow cytometers, cell staining, fast cell-reagent kinetics

Fluorescence:  Immunoassays, antigen/antibody binding, formation and dissociation constants

Feel free contact FIAlab Instruments to discuss your specific requirements with one of our application specialists.  We will recommend the best possible system configuration(s), and explain to you their advantages and limitations.  We will try to point you to existing published literature that discusses your specific application(s).   We also invite you to visit our company and see for yourself this technology, configured for a variety of different methods.
